Alessandro Scala is a sax player and composer. Born in Ravenna, Italy in 1968, begins his musical education at the age of 9, with the clarinet first and then at the age of 14 with the saxophone. Initially self taught in Jazz music he later attended few Clinics and Masterclasses by musicians such as Jerry Bergonzi, Joe Diorio, Bob Mintzer, Steve Grossman. But for Alessandro the best way to learn the jazz language are the live gigs, interacting and absorbing from other musicians.
During the years Alessandro is able to develop his own “voice” and he is now much appreciated for his musicality and versatility. He feels equally at home in different styles like Jazz, Pop, Bossa nova, Funk and even electronic music. Beside being a sought after sideman as a sax player he has also been active in creating new groups playing his own original music. At the present he is involved in the following groups which play on a regular basis: Alessandro Scala Quartet/Quintet, Jazz a la Mode.....
He’s also still enjoying playing mainstream jazz in more classic jazz settings. During the years he has worked in several different musical situations playing with many musicians, just to quote a few: Bob Moses, Joy Garrison, Mario Biondi, Flavio Boltro, Fabrizio Bosso, Gianluca Petrella, Dennis Chambers, Antonello Salis, Marco Tamburini, Luca Mannutza, and Massimo Manzi.
